Task 3 - planning

Initial ideas:
To begin with, i had a few ideas of inanimate objects which i could potentially use within this project. Some of the objects i considered using for this project include:

  • A mug
This could show the mug being filled with a beverage and being drunk while being surrounded with objects such as books.
  • A large Stitch plush toy
This could show a day in Stitch's life as though he was alive, Stitch could be seen in places such as the bedroom, kitchen and outdoor locations such as a park. It could start with Stitch waking up and end with Stitch going to sleep.
  • A small monkey toy
This would be the same sort of idea as above, only with a different stuffed toy.

  • A notepad
This could show someone carrying a notepad around with them to different locations and at various locations, opening the notepad to taken notes and draw small doodles. This would take place in various indoor and outdoor locations.
  • A pen
This could show a pen travelling to all sorts of places you could find a pen, it could start with the pen being in a pen holder with a bunch of other pens, then being used to take notes, thrown into a handbag, taking notes on a napkin in a cafe, lost under a chair, then found and returned to the pen pot with the other pens.

Planning:
For my final show reel, I have chosen to carry out the mug idea. For this photoshoot i will take various photographs to show events in which a mug goes through in an average day. For this photoshoot I will show actual events which a standard mug usually goes through and will not try to personify the mug and make it go on adventures like I would have done had i chosen to photograph a stuffed toy. This photoshoot and show reel will tell the story of a mug, starting in the kitchen, in the cupboard where the mugs are kept. The mug will then be moved to the worktop where the kettle is kept. a cup of tea will then be made in the mug. The mug of tea will then be moved to the second location, the living room, where the mug will be photographed at different stages of fullness while next to various other objects which will hopefully suggest activities which are taking place around the mug. For example, the mug will be shown full of tea next to a book, then empty next to the same book. this will suggest that the owner of the mug is drinking the tea from it while enjoying the book. The end of the photoshoot and show reel will show the mug being put into the dish washer then being placed back into the cupboard where it began. I feel that starting and ending the photoshoot and show reel with the cup in the same location will tie the whole thing together nicely. This photoshoot will take place in my home within two locations, the kitchen and the living room. As this photoshoot will take place in my home, this means that I will not have to travel and any travel expenses for this photoshoot will be non existent making the shoot easy to complete. I will most likely be shooting these images in the time I have after college meaning that I will be relying on artificial lighting from the ceiling lights in my house and the flash on my camera. I feel that this will work well though as i will be able to properly control how much light is shed onto the object and surrounding area.

Story boards:
In addition to the the written planning, I also created a story board of my ideas for the photoshoot. here is the story board which I created:
